Your film editor

It is part of my job for Swiss Public Broadcast SRF to edit films, i.e to shorten them and to decide on the content and the placing of captions and lowers.

Film editing requires much the same skills as linguistic revisions of texts: you want to safeguard the integrity of the message of the film, to keep in mind to overall picture and to create smooth, logical transitions.

When deciding when and where to cut I pay great attention to the timing and the visual and sound transitions. My instructions to the cutter are clear and precise because I have planned the editing well in advance.

Film editing also comprises the creation and the placing of captions and lowers. Esthetic considerations matter as much as linguistic precision.
