My experience as an interpreter and speaker inform my text work. Translating or subtitling your film is fast and efficient thanks to my ability to work in the target language without resorting to a transcript first. I love to polish voice over texts until the timing is perfect. I will synchronize talks and presentations. And I am happy to write the commentary for your film, audioguide, or the content for your E-learning tool.

Voice over

I have been writing the texts for the voice over of the interviews with international guests on the show “Sternstunden”, a TV program dedicated to philosophy, art and religion on Swiss national television. In voice over the listener ideally gets the impression to actually understand the foreign language spoken in the original. Such a text demands a lot of linguistic fine tuning and tons of experience. Naturally, my background as an interpreter weighs in heavily, since I don’t have to produce a transcript first, which shortens the entire process considerably. If I am also the speaker of the text the voiceover becomes a very round and polished experience.

In the German example below I simultaneously translated the host’s questions for Steven Pinker in a 60 minute TV philosophy show. I then established the voice over text and was the speaker in the voice over recording. Have a look at the conversation as it actually happened in the first clip. Then see the first text draft (which corresponds to what a synchronization might look like) and the finished text of the voice over. The final link shows you the program as it was broadcast with me as the speaker of the voice over.

Commentary

Do you need a commentary for your film? I am happy to work hand in hand with you to produce a text that ideally matches and completes the film material. My experience as a speaker is your guarantee that the spoken text will have the effect desired.

DEF Kallen productions asked me to produce the English version of their new corporate video. The English text had to follow the film metaphors and be speaker friendly. Storytelling at its best.

Subtitles

The increase in digital content on mobile devices has created a surge in the need for subtitles. You don’t need to go to a translation agency first and then to look for someone to produce the actual subtitles for you (which requires a lot of language experience!). I can take care of that for you by using the aegisub software to produce an .srt file that can be broadly used in professional film tools. The quality of the subtitles depends on the right distance to the spoken text and on precisely timing the ins and outs. I will produce English or German subtitles, also from French and Italian.

E-Learnings

More and more companies make use of E-Learningsfor specific training aspects. Their educational effect depends on good didactics, and a clear and authentic presentation of the content. As a copywriter and speaker and with my background as a teacher I am ideally placed to create the respective texts together with you.
